Hyderabad: At the 44th Foundation Day of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, Vice-Chancellor of Yashwant Rao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), discussed how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and new technologies are changing distance education. He emphasized that AI, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) are key in addressing modern educational challenges.
Prof. Sonawane urged educators to keep learning and create student-focused, research-based programs. He noted the positive impact of generative AI and immersive tech worldwide but pointed out issues like poor digital infrastructure and insufficiently trained instructors in government institutions.
Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice-Chancellor of BRAOU, highlighted the university’s goal to make distance education accessible across Telangana. He announced a new Digital Resource Center and partnerships with Telangana Police to help employees gain degrees and with WE-HUB to support women’s education linked to jobs.
Prof. Chakrapani expressed concerns about private universities neglecting universal distance education and stressed the importance of enhancing student services. He committed to ensuring distance learners have full access to opportunities.
In a meaningful act, VC Chakrapani donated 1,100 books from his personal collection to the university library. Prof. Rajani received the books. Renowned artists E Laxman and Dr. G Linga Raju were honored for their work, including designing the university’s new emblem.
