Doctors at SVS Hospital in Mahabubnagar successfully saved a three-year-old boy using a sophisticated medical procedure. The boy had a custard apple seed lodged in his lung, which they removed using advanced rigid bronchoscopy.
The incident happened while the boy was playing in Avancha village, Thimmajipeta mandal. He accidentally inhaled the seed, causing a blockage in his left lung and breathing difficulties. His parents initially sought help at a local hospital, but doctors there sent them to SVS for specialized care.
By the time the boy reached SVS, his oxygen levels had dangerously dropped to 50 percent. Pediatric doctors Dr. Sailaja and Dr. Soren provided him with oxygen and conducted a CT scan. The scan revealed the seed lodged deep in his lung.
Pulmonology expert Dr. Tummuru Venkateswara Reddy led the procedure. Using a rigid bronchoscope, which is a special instrument for airway access, the team removed the seed within five minutes, allowing the boy to breathe normally again.
The team of doctors included Dr. Sharath Chandra, Dr. Rajashekar, and postgraduate doctors Dr. Sumayya Naaz, Dr. Namratha, Dr. Swathi, and Dr. Kamal. The anesthesia team, led by Dr. Venkateshwar Reddy, with Dr. Veena Mary, Dr. Soumya, Dr. Harika, and Dr. Chaitanya, provided crucial support.
Senior medical staff, such as Dr. Pradyut Waghray, Dr. Koteshwar Rao, and RMO Dr. Venu, commended the team’s swift and skilled response.
The hospital’s management highlighted that such advanced medical procedures, like rigid bronchoscopy, are now accessible in Mahabubnagar, eliminating the need to travel to Hyderabad for emergencies.
