Officials in the Education Department and Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) are receiving complaints about Gurunanak and Sreenidhi institutions. The Telangana State Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2018 is a law to deal with private universities in the state. The Act ensures that an official not less than the rank of the Secretary of Education is a member of the Governing Body of the private university, and the body holds meetings three times a year. The government can assess a university’s teaching, examination, research, or any other matter related to the university. It can also make recommendations to the university to take corrective measures. If a university fails to act on these recommendations, the government may give directions for compliance. However, the Act has not come into force, so no action can be taken against Gurunanak or any other university. The University Grants Commission (UGC) can act on complaints from students, parents, or other stakeholders. Students can seek legal remedy, but it is doubtful whether their admissions and degrees would be valid.
