Hyderabad: The focus is now on Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. Everyone is waiting for his decision regarding the MLAs accused of switching parties.
The BRS party filed a case against ten MLAs who changed their allegiance since October 1. The hearings and cross-examinations concluded on Saturday. The next steps will be clear by October 23. During the hearings, lawyers questioned two MLAs, Gudem Mahipal Reddy from Patancheru and Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy from Gadwal.
The BRS party wants these MLAs disqualified for changing parties after winning on a BRS ticket. They even took the matter to the Supreme Court, which has set a deadline for the Speaker’s decision. Speaker Prasad Kumar issued notices to the ten MLAs, but except for Danam Nagender and Kadiyam Srihari, the rest claim they haven’t switched parties. Evidence has been presented against those who deny changing sides.
The Supreme Court requires a decision by October 30. However, the Speaker is on a foreign trip starting Monday and will be back on October 24. Political circles are eagerly waiting to see what decision he will make.
