Healthcare professionals from across India and international locations gathered in Hyderabad to transform how women experience childbirth. The Fernandez Hospital Educational and Research Foundation hosted its second annual conference focused on creating better birth experiences for mothers.
The event took place at The Park hotel in Hyderabad over two days. Medical experts, including doctors, midwives, nurses, and public health specialists, came together to share knowledge and strategies.
The conference carried the theme “Reimagining Childbirth: A Call for Change.” Participants explored ways to make delivery rooms more welcoming for women while reducing unnecessary medical procedures during birth.
Multiple learning sessions filled the program. Attendees participated in hands-on workshops, joined panel discussions, and listened to research presentations. Key topics included cutting down C-section rates, expanding midwife-led birthing programs, and building teamwork models that help women make informed decisions about their care.
Dr Evita Fernandez, who serves as Managing Trustee for the foundation, emphasized the broader impact of respectful maternity care. She explained that India’s development depends directly on supporting and empowering women throughout the country.
The doctor stated that treating mothers with dignity during childbirth helps build a more caring and fair society for everyone.
Current statistics show India has made progress in reducing deaths during pregnancy and delivery. However, medical experts expressed concern about the growing number of cesarean deliveries, particularly in private medical facilities.
Conference speakers stressed the importance of better training programs for healthcare workers. They also called for increased public education to ensure surgical births only happen when medically necessary.
Fernandez Hospital continues advancing maternal care through various innovative programs. The facility promotes specialized midwifery training, allows birth companions in delivery rooms, offers hydrotherapy options, provides water birth services, and champions respectful treatment of mothers across the nation.
