    Lionel Messi, the 35-year-old Argentine footballer, won the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award. This is the second time he has won this award, making him the only footballer to win it twice. Messi also inspired Argentina to their third FIFA World Cup triumph, which helped him win this prestigious award. The Laureus World Sports Awards is an annual recognition given to honour sporting individuals and teams.
