Gadwal District Follows UNICEF Advice to Improve Child Welfare Services

Gadwal is making strides to improve child welfare services as guided by UNICEF. District Collector B.M. Santhosh revealed that comprehensive plans are in place to follow UNICEF’s recommendations.

A key meeting took place on Tuesday in the IDOC Video Conference Hall to review the Supervised Supplementary Feeding Program. It involved officials from various departments and the UNICEF team.

During their visit, the UNICEF team assessed several sites, including a medicine store near Gadwal Medical College, an Anganwadi center, and a Primary Sub-Center in Gattu Mandal. They checked the availability of medicines, nutritional supplement distribution, and the execution of medical services.

The UNICEF team shared their findings with the Collector, praising the district’s efforts, especially in addressing children’s nutritional needs. They noted the effective early detection of malnutrition.

In response, the Collector committed to implementing all UNICEF suggestions. He highlighted the focus on children who aren’t benefiting from nutritional services or show developmental delays, promising corrective actions to improve their health.

He mentioned plans to hold awareness sessions with self-help groups, Anganwadi workers, and ASHA workers to ensure a coordinated approach. The goal is to send a unified message among all parties for better inter-departmental collaboration.

The Collector emphasized enhancing the Supervised Supplementary Feeding Program with UNICEF’s guidance. The program will improve in delivering Balamrutham Plus, medical aid, nutrition, and health education more effectively.

The meeting included key figures such as Additional Collector Narsinga Rao, District Welfare Officer Sunanda, DPO Nagendram, District Medical Officer Siddappa, and UNICEF team members, among others.
