GHMC has cancelled the planned flyovers and underpasses around Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) National Park and approved a smaller elevated-corridor proposal. The decision was taken at a Standing Committee meeting on October 4, 2026.

The original package was administratively sanctioned in October 2024 at about ₹826 crore. Its cost was later revised to around ₹1,090 crore. The plan included seven flyovers and seven underpasses at junctions around the park.

The cancelled works included projects at Jubilee Check Post, KBR Park Gate, Mugdha Junction and Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital, along with other locations. Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan chaired the meeting, which GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan attended. The committee also approved the termination of contracts with KNR and Megha for the dropped works.

Work on the earlier package had stalled after a stay order restricted tree-felling in the eco-sensitive zone around the park. Reports placed the affected area at about 25 to 35 metres around the park.

The replacement proposal is a roughly 4-km, six-lane elevated corridor from NFCL Junction in Punjagutta to the road near Jubilee Check Post Metro Station on Jubilee Hills Road No. 36. It is intended to provide a signal-free link towards HITEC City. Vehicles joining near Muffakham Jah College on Banjara Hills Road No. 3 would connect to the road below the metro station, with traffic able to travel in the opposite direction as well.

A separate ramp is planned towards Jalagam Vengal Rao Park and Banjara Hills Road No. 1. The corridor has been entrusted to Megha Engineering, but its cost and design details have not been finalised. The New Indian Express described the change as a restructuring, with junction-level projects at places including TV9 Junction, Road No. 45, Film Nagar and Maharaja Agrasen Junction to be replaced by a continuous elevated route. Its report said the proposal would require state government, EPC Committee and GHMC General Body clearances.

The shift follows a clockwise one-way traffic system introduced around KBR Park in August 2026. After a joint inspection, police and GHMC officials found that traffic on the park–IT corridor was moving more smoothly. GHMC is also considering making the one-way arrangement permanent.
