Hyderabad: On Wednesday, the GHMC General Council met to discuss preparations for the monsoon and other essential services.
GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi chaired the 11th meeting. Members expressed anger over a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, offering condolences to the victims’ families and observing a two-minute silence.
Mayor Vijayalakshmi urged officials and public representatives to work together for the city’s development. She mentioned the Chief Minister’s commitment to funding infrastructure and welfare projects within GHMC and thanked him for supporting Baldia‘s development.
A pre-monsoon sanitation drive is planned to clean streets and prevent seasonal diseases. The Mayor emphasized its importance for city cleanliness, urging officials to cooperate with local representatives, including MLAs, MLCs, and MPs, to ensure success. Zonal review meetings are addressing public concerns, with decisions made to resolve issues raised by corporators. Corporators will work with officials on sanitation, de-silting, Nala development, and infrastructure improvements across zones.
Plans are underway to identify new routes for approximately 744.22 km of roads under CRMP-1 and transfer management of 1142.54 km of roads to private agencies from 2025 to 2030, with a proposed budget of Rs 3825 crore.
Some corporators accused officials of irregularities in vehicle tenders for monsoon relief efforts. BRS corporators demanded the arrest of Baba Fasiuddin, a Congress member from Borabanda, alleging his involvement in a suicide. They protested with slogans and placards.
Mayor Vijayalakshmi calmed the situation, stating that an FIR has been filed and the case is under investigation. She assured that the law will proceed accordingly and invited BRS corporators to present any additional evidence to investigators.
BJP corporators expressed dissatisfaction with the meeting, seeking the Mayor’s removal over road maintenance, street lighting, sanitation, birth certificate processing, entomology, and flood water canal issues.
Other topics included the operation of HYDRA, street lighting, birth and death certificate issuance, rainwater harvesting pits, RTC bus stop restoration, lack of cemetery infrastructure, and flyover beautification efforts.

Karnan, and Additional Commissioners Sneha Shabarish, Venugopal, Venugopal Reddy, Pankaja, Subhadra, among others.
