The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated work on 18 new link roads spanning across multiple zones in Hyderabad. The ambitious infrastructure project aims to improve connectivity between key areas and reduce traffic congestion in the rapidly growing city. Construction has already commenced on stretches where right-of-way is available, while land acquisition procedures are underway for the remaining sections.
The Rajendranagar Zone will see the development of six new link roads covering a total distance of approximately 13.85 kilometers. The major stretches include a 5.5-kilometer road connecting ORR Service Road to Chevella Road via Kismatpur, a 2.5-kilometer stretch from Farmaish Hotel to Taramati Baradari, and a 2.1-kilometer road from Bapughat Bridge to P&T Colony. Additional roads will link Kismatpur to R&B Road near Prestige Villas, Bandlaguda/Bairagiguda to Narsingi, and Dargah to LV Prasad Eye Institute.
In the Khairatabad Zone, two critical link roads are being developed to enhance connectivity in the central business district. A 1.6-kilometer road will connect Greenlands Junction to Necklace Road, while a 1-kilometer stretch will link Necklace Road Railway Station to Patigadda. These roads are expected to significantly ease traffic movement in one of Hyderabad’s busiest commercial areas.
The Shamshabad Zone accounts for the largest share of the project with 10 new link roads totaling over 38 kilometers. The longest stretch in this zone is a 7-kilometer road connecting Gollapally Junction to ORR Service Road. Other significant projects include a 5-kilometer road from Shamshabad Railway Crossing to Dharmagiri Road, a 4-kilometer stretch linking Shamshabad Bus Stop to Oasis International School/Rallaguda Road, and a 3.8-kilometer road connecting Badangpet to Turkayamjal via Nadargul.
Additional roads in the Shamshabad Zone include a 3.3-kilometer stretch from Kurmalguda to Nadargul, a 3.2-kilometer road from Mallapur Crossroad to Kurmalguda, and two 2.6-kilometer roads connecting Badangpet-Nadargul Main Road to Nadargul Road and RCI X Road to Srisailam Highway respectively. Shorter stretches of 2 kilometers and 1.6 kilometers will link Injapur Road to Munganoor Road and Thorrur to Nagarjunasagar Road.
The GHMC has prioritized locations where land availability permits immediate construction, allowing work to progress without delays. For stretches requiring land acquisition, the civic body is coordinating with relevant departments to expedite the process. The comprehensive road development initiative is part of Hyderabad’s broader urban mobility enhancement strategy to accommodate the city’s growing population and vehicular traffic.
