Hyderabad is gearing up for improvements in its slaughterhouses as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) plans to modernize and upgrade their infrastructure. On Tuesday, GHMC’s Commissioner RV Karnan visited the Jiyaguda Kamela Slaughterhouse in Karwan Circle to assess the current conditions and push for quicker modernization efforts.
He was joined by Zonal Commissioner Anurag Jayanthi, Chief Engineer Sahadev Rathnakar, Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Abdul Wakil, and other GHMC staff. The team looked into existing setups and discussed ways to maintain them better. Commissioner Karnan urged project engineers to speed up infrastructure upgrades and improve monitoring systems.
Keeping hygiene and public health as top priorities, the Commissioner emphasized the need for a cleaner environment. He instructed immediate removal of debris and construction waste from the area. In another development, the GHMC plans to reopen the Gowlipura slaughterhouse in Santosh Nagar, also known as Gowlipura Mekalamandi. This facility had been efficiently run by GHMC but was affected by a legal issue due to a complaint from a local resident.
Following a lengthy court case, local community leaders have asked the Commissioner for necessary repairs and service restorations. Karnan assured them that repairs, machinery restoration, and essential services like water supply are in progress. He has also instructed the Project Engineer to prepare proposals for these improvements.
