GHMC urges officials to clean lakes after immersion

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has instructed its officials to enhance sanitation, water quality, and environmental care around the city’s lakes after the Ganesh idol immersions. On Thursday, GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan visited Saroornagar Lake with LB Nagar Zonal Commissioner Hemanth Keshav Patil and Assistant Commissioner (Sanitation) Raghu Prasad to check on ongoing efforts.

During this visit, the Commissioner evaluated the lake’s current state with other department officials. He emphasized the importance of ongoing actions to ensure cleanliness, improve water quality, and safeguard the lake’s ecosystem.

Following the immersions, GHMC began cleanup operations in the lakes. The process includes sorting puja items and other waste from the water. GHMC reports that over 15,000 sanitation workers have been clearing confetti, idol decorations, and other debris from the streets. So far, they’ve gathered 20,000 tonnes of additional waste, transporting it to the processing center in Jawahar Nagar. A comprehensive sanitation drive is ongoing throughout the city.
