Hyderabad: The Justice PC Ghose Commission is getting ready to conduct the final phase of its investigation into the damage caused to the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages. These structures are part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, which is also under scrutiny for alleged corruption during its construction.
The Commission arrived in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening. It is now preparing a schedule to call in more irrigation officials and political leaders. The purpose is to gather additional information to complete its report on the project.
According to sources, the Commission plans to summon former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and former Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao. They are expected to be questioned about how contracts were awarded and how the project was executed, including the maintenance of the barrages.
The state government has given the Commission a deadline to submit its report by May. Officials said that statements have already been collected from retired and current irrigation department staff. These officials reportedly said that KCR approved the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and designs for the project.
It was also revealed that the then Finance Minister, Eatala Rajendar, was overseeing the financial transactions between the government and contractors during the project’s construction. The Commission has taken all these statements into account and may also call Eatala Rajendar, who is now a BJP MP, for further questioning in the final round of the investigation.
