Google has suffered a significant setback as the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has rejected the company’s appeal against a fine of Rs 1337.76 crore imposed by the Competition Commission of India (CCI). The fine was imposed on Google for “abusing its dominant position in multiple markets in the Android mobile device ecosystem.” The NCLAT has upheld the CCI’s decision, and Google has been given one week to comply with the order and pay 10% of the fine. The NCLAT has also stated that the CCI’s investigation into Google did not violate principles of natural justice.
