Hyderabad: The State Government plans to announce local body elections soon, as the allocation of reservations in various wards is nearly done. This includes a 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs).
Panchayat Raj Secretary N Sridhar has received the finalized data on ward reservations from district authorities. Some clarifications are needed on whether caste survey data was considered, especially in areas with a higher Scheduled Caste (SC) population. Officials are correcting any mistakes in assigning wards to BCs in certain panchayats.
Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao will meet with the BC welfare and Panchayat Raj departments to finalize two government orders. These orders will cover the implementation of the 42% BC quota and the conduct of the elections.
The State Election Commission is ready for the elections. The Chief Secretary will review a detailed report on the BC quota and guide the issuance of necessary orders.
Before the election notification, the women quota within the BC, SC, and Scheduled Tribe (ST) reservations will also be finalized. Officials used the 2011 census data to determine SC and ST reservations.
