Descendants of Nizam VII are urging the Election Commission of India to stop political parties from using Mir Osman Ali Khan for their own gain. Himayat Ali Mirza, Nizam VII’s great grandson, believes that politicians in Telangana portray his great grandfather as a villain during elections. He questions why Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who shares similar ideologies with the BJP, would appoint a traitor as the first Governor of Hyderabad. Despite their pleas, no action has been taken to address this issue.
Himayat Ali Mirza warns that he will file a defamation case if further disrespect is shown towards the name of Nizam. Mohammad Safiullah from the Deccan Heritage Trust refers to the book ‘Operation Polo’ and states that the accession of Hyderabad State actually took place in January 1950, not in September 1948 as claimed. Amjed Ullah Khan, a leader of the MBT, accuses the BJP, BRS, and AIMIM of distorting Hyderabad’s history by celebrating ‘Liberation Day’ on September 17. He believes that these parties are promoting a skewed narrative and opening old wounds.
Khan argues that Hyderabad has always been a part of Indian history and culture. He mentions various dynasties that have contributed to the region’s rich history and notes the establishment of Muslim rule in the 13th century. He condemns the narrative that portrays Hyderabad State as a separate entity before 1948, stating that it is a misrepresentation.
