Hyderabad: BRS leader T Harish Rao has accused the government of failing to fulfill promises made to farmers, such as loan waivers and timely payments under the Rythu Bandhu scheme. He expressed concern over the hardships faced by farmers, urging the government to implement the promised free Land Regularisation Scheme (LRS) that was pledged before the recent Assembly elections.

In a letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Rao emphasized the need for the government to keep its pre-election promises. He also highlighted the struggles of people in the State who are burdened by rising medical costs due to fever outbreaks.

Rao criticized the government’s approach of pressuring officials, from collectors to panchayat secretaries, to collect LRS fees. He claimed that these officials are harassing residents with constant calls and threats to cancel layouts if the fees are not paid. According to Rao, the government’s attempt to collect Rs 15,000 crore in this manner is unfair and places an undue burden on the public.

He reminded the public of statements made by Congress leaders, including Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Seethakka, and Revanth Reddy, who had promised to implement the LRS without charging a single rupee. Rao urged people not to pay the LRS fee as a form of protest against the government’s failure to keep its word. He assured that the BRS would take full responsibility to pressure the government into implementing LRS without collecting any charges.
