Relief for KCR and Harish Rao in Corruption Case

In a significant development, the Telangana High Court provided relief to former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, and six others. The case involved a private complaint filed against them regarding alleged corruption. On Tuesday, Justice Kunuru Lakshman of the High Court “suspended” an earlier order dated July 10, 2024, issued by the Principal Sessions Judge (PSJ) Court of Jayashankar Bhupalapally district.

The complaint, brought forward by social activist Nagavelli Rajalingamurthy, accused KCR, Harish Rao, and others of corruption during the construction of the “Medigadda” barrage, which later sustained damages. The High Court has now issued a notice to the activist, asking him to respond to the case. Further hearing has been scheduled for January 7, 2025.

Justice Lakshman criticized the decision of the PSJ Bhupalapally. The judge had overturned an earlier dismissal of the complaint by the Principal Junior Civil Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate of First Class at Jayashankar Bhupalapally district. The magistrate court had dismissed the activist’s complaint on January 12, 2024, citing lack of jurisdiction and stating that the private complaint was not maintainable. The High Court’s intervention has now put the case on hold for further review.
