A 27-year-old postgraduate medical student was found dead in a hotel room in Miyapur, Hyderabad, on Friday, October 2. Police identified her as Komati Srijana, a native of Sangareddy district.
Srijana was pursuing a postgraduate degree in paediatrics at a medical college in Hanamkonda district. Police said her family contacted them after they were unable to reach her. Her mobile phone location led officers to the hotel, where they found her body on a bed in a room.
According to police, Srijana had arrived in Hyderabad on Wednesday, September 30, after a male friend reportedly called her to discuss the return of a gold chain. An official said investigators found that she had joined the man at the hotel that day.
The man allegedly checked out of the hotel on Thursday, October 1, and has not been traced since, police said. Srijana’s father, K. Bhumayya, lodged a complaint alleging that his daughter had been murdered.
Police registered a murder case based on the complaint. Officers said the preliminary examination found no obvious external injury marks. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police are searching for Srijana’s friend and examining CCTV footage and other evidence to establish the sequence of events. Investigators said she had known the man since her MBBS studies in Mahabubnagar district.
