Hyderabad Police arrested 11 accused persons on January 19, 2026, in connection with a communal incident at Puranapool Chilla in Hyderabad. The arrests were made by Kamatipura Police following an unlawful assembly that raised provocative slogans and damaged property, disturbing public tranquillity and communal harmony in the area.

The incident was triggered on January 15, 2026, at approximately 11:30 pm, when an unidentified person entered the Puranapool Darwaza Mysamma Temple and partially damaged a flexi banner and a Plaster of Paris (POP) idol located in the temple veranda. Following this incident, certain accused persons formed an unlawful assembly and damaged the Chilla in retaliation, escalating tensions in the locality.

Based on a formal complaint, a case was registered under Cr. No. 12/2026. Kamatipura Police conducted a thorough investigation by analysing and verifying CCTV footage and technical evidence, which led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the accused persons involved in the communal offence.

The arrested individuals include Choukat Shanker (19 years), Choukat Abhishek (24 years), Kaliwale Kushal Singh (19 years), Andhumalla Varun (21 years), Andhumalla Arun (20 years), Choukat Raman (22 years), Kaliwala Bhumesh (22 years), Esliwala Ganesh (19 years), Jaggila Sandeep (31 years), Damdi Vishal Singh (22 years), and Smt. Kali Manju (45 years). Most of the accused are residents of Pardiwada, Puranapool area in Hyderabad.

All 11 accused persons were arrested on January 19, 2026, and produced before the Honourable Court. The court has remanded them to judicial custody. Police authorities have confirmed that efforts are currently underway to apprehend other absconding accused persons connected to the incident.

Following instructions from Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sri VC Sajjanar, IPS, prompt action was taken to control the situation and prevent further escalation. As part of confidence-building measures suggested by the Commissioner of Police, patrolling has been intensified in the affected areas. Flag marches were conducted in Kamatipura and Bahadurpura areas, and police pickets have been deployed in sensitive locations.

Additional security personnel have been positioned at strategic points to monitor the situation and prevent any untoward incidents. The DCP Rajendranagar has issued a public appeal urging both communities to maintain peace and refrain from spreading rumours. The public has been requested to cooperate with the police in preserving communal harmony and public order.
