The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced plans to run 6,432 special buses for the upcoming Sankranti festival. These buses will operate between January 9th and 15th to meet the increased travel demand during the festive season. Out of the total, 550 buses will have advance reservation options for passengers.
To ease congestion in Hyderabad, TGSRTC will deploy these special services from major areas such as MGBS, JBS, Uppal Cross Roads, LB Nagar Cross Roads, KPHB, Aranghar, Boinpally, and Gachibowli. Officials will monitor passenger traffic in these locations and adjust bus services as needed.
Last year, TGSRTC initially planned 4,484 special buses but ended up operating 5,246 buses due to high demand. Learning from that experience, the corporation has increased the number of special buses this year to provide a smoother and safer travel experience for people heading to their hometowns.
The buses will primarily cover routes to various destinations in Andhra Pradesh, including Amalapuram, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Srisailam, and many others. Special arrangements are also being made for the return journey to Telangana after the festival.
In addition, TGSRTC has confirmed that electric buses will be available on routes from Karimnagar, Nizamabad, and Warangal during this period. To enhance passenger convenience, the corporation is setting up facilities in busy areas of Hyderabad, such as pandals, chairs, public address systems, drinking water stations, and mobile toilets.
As part of the state government’s Mahalaxmi scheme, women traveling on Palle Velugu, Express, City Ordinary, and Metro Express buses can avail of free travel by obtaining zero tickets.
TGSRTC officials are encouraging passengers to avoid risky travel in private vehicles and instead use the special bus services for a safe and comfortable journey during Sankranti.
