Hyderabad traffic police have announced major traffic diversions across key areas of the city on May 27 and 28 due to the upcoming Bakrid Festival 2026. The restrictions are being implemented to manage heavy congestion expected from increased goat and sheep sales activity during the festival period. Diversions will remain in effect from 5 PM to 4 AM on both days, affecting several major routes across the city.
The Tolichowki-Nanal Nagar-Rethibowli stretch and the Rethibowli-Attapur road are expected to witness significant traffic congestion. Commuters traveling from Gachibowli and Raidurgam towards Mehdipatnam have been advised to use alternative routes through Film Nagar and Brindavan Colony. Similarly, traffic from Lakdikapul to Gachibowli will be diverted via Masab Tank and Banjara Hills to avoid the congested areas.
Additional diversions include routing Mehdipatnam to Gachibowli traffic through Langer Houz and Narsingi Road. Commuters traveling from Masab Tank to Attapur are advised to take the PVN R Expressway service route instead of the regular path. These alternate routes have been designated to ensure smoother traffic flow and minimize inconvenience to daily commuters during the festival period.
Private travel buses have been specifically instructed to avoid the Mehdipatnam-Tolichowki route during night hours and instead use the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The traffic police are implementing these measures to facilitate the traditional livestock trading activities associated with Bakrid while ensuring public safety and maintaining traffic discipline across the affected areas.
