The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (HMWSSB) has recently been awarded the Best Sewage Treatment Plant award in the government category by Water Digest, an international magazine. The Water Digest Water Awards (WDWA) is a platform that recognizes exceptional environmental initiatives and achievements. As the first environmental award in India, WDWA was established to raise eco-consciousness in Indian industries and society.

HMWSSB submitted their entry in the best STP-government category titled ‘Making Hyderabad 100% Sewerage Treatment City’ which highlighted 31 new STPs being constructed along with a larger 339 MLD Amberpet STP. Competing against corporate companies from across the country, HMWSSB was selected by a jury.

According to HMWSSB officials, besides providing drinking water to everyone in the city, the board is also working hard to treat the generated sewage. The State government has sanctioned 62 STPs under the sewerage master plan of Hyderabad city at a cost of Rs.3,866 crore. This is the first time in the country where a government has sanctioned such an amount to treat 100 percent sewage treatment,” said HMWSSB managing director Dana Kishore.

This award is a testament to the efforts of HMWSSB in providing clean and safe water to the citizens of Hyderabad while also ensuring proper treatment of sewage. The recognition from Water Digest will serve as an inspiration for the board to continue their efforts towards environmental sustainability.
