Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) continued its demolition drive for a second day on Monday. Their focus was on removing unauthorized structures at Kavuri Hills Colony Park, located in the busy Madhapur area.

The structures pulled down were built in a space reserved for the colony park. The Kavuri Hills Association had filed a complaint against a local sports academy, leading HYDRA to take action and demolish the structures.

HYDRA Commissioner A V Ranganath explained that the demolition was carried out following a court order.

However, the sports academy management argued that they had a 25-year lease for the land from the Kavuri Hills Association. They claimed the demolition was unfair as the lease period had not yet expired.

HYDRA officials, after completing the demolition, put up a Kavuri Hills Park board, which belongs to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The authorities clarified that the colony association does not have the right to lease out land meant for public use. The space is supposed to be used for greenery and other development projects by the GHMC.

In a related operation on Sunday, HYDRA demolished illegal constructions set up for commercial purposes within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone of Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally. Additionally, they reclaimed four acres of government land at Kistareddypet and Patelguda in Ameenpur Municipality.
