Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) successfully cleared illegal structures from a 3712-yard park area valued at Rs 37.12 crore on Friday, February 13.

In Jeedimetla village, located in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district, the Bhagyalakshmi Colony layout was created in 1968, featuring 810 plots over 80 acres, which included 10 designated parks.

A high-tension power line once crossed this area, supplying electricity to local industries, and some parks were directly underneath it, halting their development.

Once the power lines were rerouted to provide electricity to industries through an alternative path, people began occupying the park land.

After receiving complaints, HYDRAA surveyed the area and removed encroachments from six parks, installing fences and signs to deter future illegal activities.

HYDRAA also took action in the Gudimalkapur area of Hyderabad. There, the AG Office Cooperative Housing Society layout had three plots in a low-lying area among its 83 plots on 10 acres.

The layout was later modified, and alternative plots were given to the original owners, designating the 1500-yard depression as a park.

However, delays in development led to multiple people using the land illegally. One ran a sand business, another used it for vehicle parking, and another person operated a coconut business.

After locals complained, HYDRAA removed the unauthorized occupants and installed fencing to secure the park area.
