Hyderabad witnessed another major anti-encroachment operation as HYDRAA officials conducted a surprise demolition drive at Kotha Cheruvu in Kokapet under Gandipet mandal early this morning. The operation targeted illegal structures built within the protected zones of the lake, marking a significant step in the ongoing efforts to safeguard the city’s water bodies from encroachments.

Authorities identified several illegal structures during their inspection, including massive compound walls and temporary constructions that had been allegedly erected within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone limits of the lake. These encroachments violated the regulations meant to protect the lake’s ecological integrity and water storage capacity.

The demolition operation was carried out with heavy police security in place to ensure smooth execution. HYDRAA officials deployed JCB machines and demolished the encroachments on the spot. The presence of law enforcement personnel helped maintain order during the drive and prevented any potential resistance from encroachers.

To prevent further land grabbing activities around the lake, HYDRAA has initiated fencing works around Kotha Cheruvu immediately following the demolition drive. This protective measure aims to create a physical barrier that will deter future encroachments and help preserve the lake’s boundaries for long-term conservation.

The operation at Kokapet is part of HYDRAA’s broader mission to protect Hyderabad’s water bodies from illegal occupation. The city has witnessed numerous instances of lake encroachment over the years, leading to shrinking water bodies and ecological degradation. The ongoing crackdown demonstrates the administration’s commitment to reversing this trend.
