The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has successfully thwarted an encroachment attempt on 2,700 square yards of government land in Neknampur, protecting property worth approximately ₹54 crore. The agency acted swiftly to secure the land designated for public utility purposes in the Secretariat Employees’ Colony.

The protected land is located in Survey No. 31 of Neknampur village, Gandipet Mandal, Ranga Reddy district. The total government land in this survey number spans 59.14 acres, which was originally allocated to Secretariat employees by the government in 2002.

In 2007, the then Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) received official approval to develop a residential layout on this land. Following the layout approval, residential plots were distributed among beneficiaries and houses were subsequently constructed to accommodate government employees.

According to the approved layout plan, 2,700 square yards were specifically designated for a park and other public utility facilities. This land parcel is situated on an elevated mound, which created practical difficulties for developing it as a park as originally intended.

Taking advantage of the challenging terrain and the delays in park development, attempts were allegedly made to illegally convert the designated public utility space into residential plots. Such unauthorized conversion would have deprived residents of essential community amenities and violated the approved layout plan.

HYDRAA officials intervened promptly upon receiving information about the encroachment attempt. The agency took immediate protective measures by erecting fencing around the entire 2,700 square yards of land to prevent any further unauthorized occupation or construction activities.

The intervention ensures that the land meant for public use remains protected and available for the residents of the Secretariat Employees’ Colony, including those residing in Dr. Y.S.R Enclave. The fencing serves as a physical barrier against future encroachment attempts on the valuable government property.

The protected land, valued at approximately ₹54 crore based on current market rates in the area, will continue to be reserved for its designated public utility purpose. HYDRAA’s action reinforces the agency’s mandate to safeguard government assets and prevent illegal land grabbing in the city.
