The Income Tax department on Friday carried out a large-scale survey linked to Hyderabad-based Omega Hospitals across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The operation is part of an investigation into suspected tax irregularities and possible income suppression.

The Hyderabad investigation wing of the department led the survey, which covered nine locations in the two Telugu states. Teams visited hospital premises and administrative offices. They also went to locations reportedly linked to key doctors and other individuals associated with the healthcare group.

Officials examined account books, financial records and digital data. They are looking for any discrepancies between the income reported and the taxes paid. They are also scrutinising cash transactions to assess whether any income remained outside official records.

The department is verifying the hospital group’s financial transactions and its overall tax compliance. The exercise is part of an ongoing investigation. No finding of tax evasion has been officially established so far.

Surgical oncologist Dr Ch Mohana Vamsy founded Omega Hospitals in Hyderabad in 2010. The group has grown into one of the region’s prominent cancer care providers. It operates oncology and multispecialty facilities across several states, including centres at Gachibowli, Banjara Hills and Karimnagar in Telangana. In Andhra Pradesh, it runs centres at Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Kurnool, Bhimavaram and Tirupati. It also operates hospitals in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

The survey continued till late on Friday. Details of any cash, documents or other assets recovered were not immediately available. The department has not yet officially disclosed the outcome of the investigation or the nature of any suspected tax discrepancies.
