The term for vice-chancellors at nine government universities in Telangana is ending, leading to intense lobbying for the positions. Over 1,300 applications have been received and are being reviewed by a Search Committee. Current VCs are also seeking extensions.

The universities include Osmania, Kakatiya, Palamuru, Satavahana, Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar, Potti Sriramulu Telugu University, JNTU-H, and Jawaharlal Nehru Fine Arts University. There are many applicants for each position, as changes in leadership are expected.

Some current VCs are facing allegations and there is a push to select the most qualified candidates. Pressure from current officials is complicating the process. Education Secretary Burra Venkatesham is managing the situation.
