The Justice Chandra Ghose Commission is investigating the damages to the Kaleshwaram project. They questioned irrigation officials involved in building three barrages – Medigadda, Sundilla, and Annaram. The officials must submit explanations by June 25 through affidavits.

Former Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation) Muralidhar and Chief Engineer (Kaleshwaram) Venkateswarlu, removed from service by the Congress government, were also summoned. The current government believes they were involved in finalizing contracts and operating the barrages.

Medigadda barrage sank piers, while the other two had leakages. The quality of the structures has been under scrutiny since damages were found. The commission inspected the barrages and questioned officials to verify data.

Suspected irregularities in construction were discussed by the commission. They have doubts about the official machinery’s involvement in finalizing designs and building the structures. The reasons for damages within five years of the project’s completion are being investigated.
