Hyderabad: Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre, head of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety (SCCoRS) and former Supreme Court judge, praised the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for its successful efforts in improving road safety and upkeep in the city.
On Thursday, Justice Sapre, along with GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, toured the Jubilee Hills Road No. 45 Flyover, which connects Jubilee Hills to Madhapur, and the P Janardhan Reddy Flyover, linking Kondapur with Gachibowli. They examined several road safety features like warning signboards, radium stickers, CCTV cameras, rumble strips, chevron boards, concrete barriers, and enhanced street lighting for better night visibility.
The Commissioner explained GHMC’s thorough strategies to reduce road accidents and protect commuters. Justice Sapre was pleased with their work, stressing the importance of prioritizing road safety. He remarked, “Every life is precious. Negligence should not cost innocent lives.”
Later, Justice Sapre visited the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) office in Nanakramguda, where officials shared insights on managing traffic on the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Officials noted that over 2.5 lakh vehicles travel the ORR daily, managed by advanced systems like the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) and Highway Traffic Management System (HTMS).
These systems, enhanced by CCTV, emergency call boxes, variable message signs (VMS), vehicle detectors, Automatic Traffic Counter-Classifier (ATCC), and a centralized Traffic Control Centre (TCC), ensure efficient monitoring, law enforcement, and quick emergency responses.
HMDA Urban Forestry‘s VSNV Prasad, GHMC Projects Chief Engineer Bhaskar Reddy, and Maintenance Chief Engineer Sahadev Rathnakar also participated in the inspection and discussions.
