Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has secured support from Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for a range of road and connectivity projects across the state. The proposals include works aimed at easing traffic congestion, improving road safety and strengthening links between Telangana and neighbouring states.
The Centre approved a double-decker elevated corridor between LB Nagar and Hayathnagar to address traffic congestion along Hyderabad’s fast-growing eastern corridor. The meeting also discussed the proposed expansion of the Hyderabad–Vijayawada section of National Highway 65. The tendering process is scheduled to be completed in November 2026, with six-lane expansion works due to begin in January 2027.
The Centre agreed to the proposal to lay the foundation stone for a cable-stayed bridge over the Krishna River between Somasila and Sangameswar on NH-167K. The project is expected to shorten the route to Tirupati by nearly 80 kilometres and reduce travel time by about three hours.
A fresh Detailed Project Report has been ordered for the proposed Hyderabad–Srisailam elevated corridor on NH-765. The meeting also secured approval for five ropeways under the Centre’s Parvatmala scheme, which aims to improve access to tourist destinations. In addition, three railway overbridges were approved under the SetuBandhan scheme to reduce delays at railway crossings and improve road safety.
The Centre gave a positive response to Telangana’s proposal for a Hyderabad–Amaravati greenfield highway, which would improve connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Officials were also directed to take the necessary steps on proposals for 34 road projects seeking funding through the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund.
Telangana also sought to upgrade several state highways to national highways. The proposed routes connect Pullur, Alampur, Jatrapole, Pentlavelli, Kollapur, Lingala, Achampet, Dindi, Devarakonda, Mallepalli and Nalgonda. The proposal received a positive response from the Centre.
The projects were discussed during a meeting in Delhi, where the state sought central support for road works across urban, rural and inter-state routes. The proposals also cover railway crossings and tourist destinations.
Gadkari agreed to attend the Indian Road Congress event in Hyderabad from November 19 to 22, according to details of the meeting.
