Lahore Corps Commander House Attack: Granddaughter of Pakistan’s Former Army Chief Arrested on May 9

On May 9th, military installations in Lahore, Pakistan were attacked by supporters of Imran Khan. Khadija Shah, a fashion designer and granddaughter of Pakistan’s former Army Chief, was among several women arrested for their alleged involvement in the attacks. Shah was a key instigator in the attack on the Corps Commander House in Lahore and has been arrested under terrorism charges. She may be tried under the Army Act.

The government has completed the identification of more than 500 women wanted for the May 9th incidents, and 138 cases have been registered against them. Around 8,000 people were arrested across the country, mostly party leaders and workers of the PTI. The Federal Investigation Agency has placed the names of 700 PTI leaders and activists on a no-fly list.

The attacks on military installations followed Imran Khan’s arrest in a corruption case. He was later freed on bail. The violence included the vandalism of a dozen military installations and attacks on the Army headquarters in Rawalpindi.
