The government has begun a large-scale land acquisition drive in Pedamangalaram village, Moinabad mandal, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. According to revenue officials, around 383.07 acres of land is being acquired, with compensation fixed at ₹5.5 crore per acre. The total acquisition is estimated to cost more than ₹2,000 crore.
Unclear Purpose of Acquisition
While authorities have not officially disclosed the exact purpose of the acquisition, there is growing speculation among locals. Some believe the land may be earmarked for global capability centers (GCCs), corporate development hubs, or other large-scale projects. Others suggest it could be linked to the expansion of road and infrastructure projects, including the widening of the Outer Ring Road.
Compensation and Distribution
-
Out of the total land, about 99.14 acres are said to be allotted to the electricity department.
-
Revenue officials confirmed that 52 acres have already been compensated.
-
Nearly 300 landowners have received payments, with compensation being disbursed at the rate of ₹3 crore per 800 sq. yards.
Mixed Reactions from Landowners
Landowners in the area have expressed mixed feelings. While some welcomed the high compensation rates and are planning to reinvest in new lands or real estate ventures, others are distressed over losing ancestral property. Farmers have also raised concerns about transparency in the acquisition process and fear that the alignment of land pooling could favor select beneficiaries.
What’s Next?
Officials maintain that the process will be carried out fairly and transparently. However, until the government officially clarifies the final purpose of the acquired land, speculation about whether it will host corporate campuses, GCCs, or development centers is likely to continue.
