LG compels department to submit proposal to discontinue free electricity for farmers.

The Delhi Power Minister, Atishi, has accused Lt Governor VK Saxena of forcing her department to prepare a proposal to stop free electricity to farmers and lawyers’ chambers. The Minister received a file from the Power department proposing to stop the free electricity for farmers and lawyers in Delhi. She claims that there is pressure from the LG and BJP leaders to stop the free electricity provided by the Delhi government. The proposal has been prepared under pressure from the LG, according to Atishi. She stressed that the free electricity scheme will not be stopped while Kejriwal is in power. Under a Delhi government scheme, city farmers receive free electricity, and lawyers receive a subsidy on electricity for their chambers. Domestic electricity consumption up to 200 units per month is free, while users whose monthly consumption is 201 to 400 units are paid a 50% subsidy capped at Rs 850.
