Students of Maheshwaram Government Medical College in Rangareddy district are protesting over the long-pending lack of basic facilities. The college still runs from a temporary rented campus. The protest was ongoing as of 3 November 2026.

The college was established in 2024 under the previous government. It has NMC approval and is affiliated to KNRUHS. It offers about 50 to 100 MBBS seats. For around two to three years, it has operated inside the Bharat Institute of Engineering and Technology (BIET) building at Mangalpally/Ibrahimpatnam. The college pays roughly ₹18 lakh per month in rent.

Students from three MBBS batches have staged a two-day dharna. They have boycotted classes and clinical postings, held a rally and carried out a rasta-roko on Sagar Road. Their demands include immediate hostels, a canteen, proper labs and classrooms, transport, and a shift to a permanent campus.

The students say the college has no official hostels. They are forced to rent private accommodation at ₹7,500 to ₹10,000 per month. They also point to incomplete infrastructure on the campus.

Students travel up to 40 km each day to the teaching hospital, Vanasthalipuram Area Hospital. No dedicated transport is provided. They also raised safety concerns, especially for female students. Videos show women students in white coats speaking to media outside the campus. Groups sat in front of a large unfinished multi-storey concrete building.

The issue has come up before. Earlier protests took place in December 2025 and October 2026. In April 2025, the private institution briefly sealed the premises over unpaid rent. Students say promises to relocate, including to TIMS/LB Nagar, have not been fulfilled. A permanent campus of about 20 acres has been planned but delayed. Officials have announced several timelines, and none has materialised.

Students say they will continue the protest until the government gives clear assurances and provides basic facilities.
