A major railway transformation is underway in Hyderabad as Malakpet station prepares for extensive modernization. The project will cost Rs 26.5 crore and falls under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Malakpet station serves as a crucial stop on the Kacheguda-Falaknuma suburban line. Popular trains like the Kacheguda-Kurnool Tungabhadra Express and Kacheguda-Guntur Express regularly halt here, along with multiple MMTS services.
Railway officials have outlined comprehensive improvements for passenger comfort and visual appeal. The renovation will enhance the main circulation areas and relocate existing parking facilities to better locations.
The station will showcase local art installations and feature dedicated selfie points for visitors. New entrance arches will welcome passengers, while both entry sides will receive completely redesigned facades.
A new 12-meter-wide foot-over-bridge will connect platforms safely. The project includes modern platform covers, two escalators, and lifts for easy access. Fresh platform surfaces will replace existing ones.
Enhanced lighting systems and updated information boards will improve passenger experience. Better signage throughout the station will help travelers navigate more easily.
Construction teams are working on all improvements simultaneously. The complete makeover should finish by June 2026, according to railway authorities.
This modernization is part of a larger initiative across Telangana. Forty railway stations statewide will receive upgrades worth Rs 2,750 crore in total investment.
The ambitious program aims to create modern passenger facilities while turning stations into economic growth centers for surrounding communities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already opened three upgraded stations: Begumpet, Warangal, and Karimnagar. Work continues at different stages across the remaining locations throughout the state.
