Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra has passed away at the age of 89, leaving the Indian film industry in mourning. The veteran star, who had been receiving medical treatment in recent weeks, breathed his last in Mumbai.
The actor had been discharged from Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on November 12 and was reported to be in stable condition while recovering at home. At the time of his discharge, medical professionals had expressed optimism about his recovery.
Dr. Rajiv Sharma from Breach Candy Hospital had earlier told media that the legendary star went home “fully satisfied” after receiving the required treatment. The doctor had shared that Dharmendra’s family had taken him home with all necessary arrangements in place for his care.
“He is in a stable condition. I request the public not to spread false news but instead pray for his recovery so that he can celebrate his next birthday with pride,” Dr. Sharma had stated at that time.
Prior to his discharge, the actor was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on November 10, when sources indicated he was critical and on life support. Earlier, on October 31, he was kept under strict medical observation by top doctors at the same hospital.
The superstar was set to turn 90 years old on December 8, a milestone birthday that fans across the country were eagerly anticipating.
On the professional front, Dharmendra was last seen in the movie “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” in 2024, which starred actors Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. The veteran actor had also signed up for his next project, the film “Ikkis”, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sriram Raghavan.
Throughout his illustrious career spanning several decades, Dharmendra became one of the most beloved figures in Indian cinema, earning the title of “He-Man” of Bollywood. His contributions to the film industry include numerous iconic roles that have left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.
The actor’s family has not yet released an official statement regarding funeral arrangements or further details about his passing.
