Wanaparthy – Tensions are rising in local politics as former leaders stepped forward to defend ex-minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy against land grab allegations made by current MLA Thudi Megha Reddy.
At a press meet held at Niranjan Reddy’s residence on Monday, former MPP Krishna Naik, ex-municipal chairman Karreswamy, and media convener Nandimalla Ashok strongly criticized the MLA’s accusations, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
Naik accused Megha Reddy of hypocrisy, saying, “Eight years ago, you sought Niranjan Reddy’s help to get a contract in Telangana, made crores, and later turned against him. Now, you’re spreading lies using a 90-member social media team and trying to damage his name.”
He added that the recent land allegations were exaggerated. “You claimed he grabbed 100 acres, but now you say it’s only 2.19 guntas. That’s a huge difference.”
According to Naik, the land in question is not illegally occupied. He explained that in Chunduru village, Niranjan Reddy owns only 16 acres. The remaining land belongs to his family members. He said the dispute was due to a minor overlap of 2.19 guntas of government land within plots owned by Reddy’s daughter Pratyusha and relatives Seshidhar Reddy and Pavani.
Naik emphasized that such discrepancies—up to 5%—are common in land surveys. “Calling this a land grab shows a lack of understanding. If these false claims continue, we will take legal action,” he warned.
He also accused the MLA of corruption during the Buddharam Right Canal project under the BRS government, claiming public funds were misused.
Karreswamy challenged the MLA to prove the accusations. “You’ve had 18 months to show evidence of land grabbing in Wanaparthy, yet nothing has come out. If you can’t prove your claims, step down,” he said.
Several other local leaders showed their support at the press meet, including Vakati Sridhar, Palusa Ramesh Goud, Vijay Kumar, Sunil Valmiki, Manda Ramu, Aleem, Shankar, and Srinu.
