Apollo Hospitals Group in Hyderabad has introduced the ZAP-X Gyroscopic Radiosurgery Platform, a cutting-edge technology for treating brain tumors. This marks a significant milestone as the first in South Asia to offer this innovative treatment option.
The ZAP-X technology provides a non-invasive and pain-free alternative for patients with brain tumors, with treatment sessions lasting just 30 minutes. This advanced system delivers precise radiation to the targeted tumor while minimizing exposure to healthy brain tissue, ensuring better patient outcomes and comfort.
Unlike traditional methods, ZAP-X utilizes a self-shielded, gyroscopic linear accelerator design to direct radiation beams from multiple angles, avoiding critical structures like the brain stem and optic nerves. This reduces the risk of cognitive impairment and enhances the effectiveness of the treatment.
Dr. Prathap Chandra Reddy, founder chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group, highlighted the importance of innovation in healthcare and the role of ZAP-X in revolutionizing brain tumor treatment. This technology not only provides safer and more efficient treatment but also enhances patient well-being and quality of life post-treatment.
With the increasing prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), including cancer, ZAP-X is seen as a valuable addition to the fight against these conditions. Professor John R Adler, Founder and CEO of Zap Surgical, emphasized the significance of stereotactic radiosurgery in modern medicine and how ZAP-X offers eligible patients a quick and painless treatment option with minimal side effects.
