Hyderabad Traffic Police is set to implement a one-way traffic movement system around KBR Park starting August 18, 2026, as ongoing construction work under the H-CITI Project continues to impact traffic flow in the area. The decision comes as flyovers and underpasses are being constructed in and around the KBR Park corridor, significantly reducing the available road space for vehicular movement.
The construction activities have resulted in the existing carriageway being utilised with reduced road space, while traffic volumes remain consistently high. Authorities have determined that allowing movement in both directions on the available carriageway would lead to significant congestion, delays, and potential conflict points. The one-way system is being introduced to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and ensure safer movement for all commuters in the area.
Before implementing the arrangement on a permanent basis, Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted two pilot trials to assess feasibility and operational requirements. The first trial was conducted on April 5, 2026, lasting approximately three hours, while the second trial took place on June 21, 2026, extending for approximately six hours. During both trials, officials monitored traffic flow, junction performance, lane discipline, congestion points, and commuter movement patterns.
Based on observations and lessons learned from these pilot trials, necessary modifications have been incorporated into the final traffic management plan. To facilitate a smooth transition for commuters, authorities have arranged proper lane markings and lane changers at required locations, along with installation of directional and traffic signages at strategic points throughout the corridor.
Traffic Police personnel will be deployed round-the-clock at important locations to guide and assist commuters during the implementation phase. The authorities have also coordinated necessary changes with navigation platforms like Google Maps to help commuters plan their journeys effectively. Continuous monitoring will be conducted through the Integrated Command and Control Centre and CCTV network, supplemented by drone-based monitoring at suitable locations for real-time assessment of traffic flow and congestion.
Authorities have issued specific guidelines for commuters, visitors, and walkers using the KBR Park area. Commuters are advised to plan journeys in advance considering the new one-way traffic flow, strictly follow lane markings and directional signages, and ensure unobstructed passage for emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire tenders through designated lanes. Walkers and visitors to KBR Park must park vehicles only in designated parking zones and observe the revised traffic flow during morning and evening peak hours.
The traffic police have issued strict warnings against wrong-side driving, emphasising that driving against the designated traffic flow poses severe risk of head-on collisions and endangers lives, even during night or off-peak hours when traffic volume is low. Illegal or obstructive parking on the wrong side of the road, on bends, or in any manner that creates bottlenecks or blocks emergency movement is also strictly prohibited. Citizens are urged not to rely on or forward unverified traffic information circulating on unofficial social media groups.
Hyderabad Traffic Police has appealed for cooperation from all citizens during this transition period, stating that the one-way arrangement is a necessary traffic management measure due to ongoing H-CITI construction works and the resulting limitation of available carriageway. The police will continuously monitor the traffic situation through CCTV surveillance, drone inputs, and field-level deployment, making necessary operational adjustments based on real-time traffic conditions.
