A major security concern emerged in Bollaram police station limits after 160 electrical detonators were discovered in a plastic bucket, sparking immediate police action and investigation. The detonators, packed systematically in eight bundles with 20 pieces each, were valued at approximately ₹32,000. The discovery prompted authorities to launch a comprehensive probe into the origin and purpose of these explosive devices.
Upon receiving information about the suspicious find, Bollaram police rushed to the location and conducted a thorough inspection of the bucket and its contents. The detonators were neatly organized, raising questions about their intended use and how they ended up at the location. The police immediately cordoned off the area to ensure public safety and prevent any potential mishap.
The Malkajgiri Bomb Disposal Team was promptly alerted and dispatched to the site. The specialized team, accompanied by sniffer dog Rudra, conducted an extensive examination of the surrounding area to check for any additional explosive materials or suspicious items. The bomb disposal experts followed standard safety protocols while handling and securing the recovered detonators.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Malkajgiri, Ch Sridhar, addressed the media regarding the incident, clarifying crucial details about the location of the discovery. He stated that the detonators were found in a private venture and not on army property. The DCP indicated that the explosive materials are suspected to have been used by land or plot developers at least one year ago or even earlier, suggesting they may have been abandoned after construction activities.
A case has been officially registered, and investigators are working to determine who left the detonators at the location and for what purpose. Police are conducting extensive checks in the surrounding areas following this discovery. The DCP assured that any developments in the ongoing army case would be communicated through official channels as the investigation progresses.
This incident comes months after a significant security breach on August 31, when Bollaram police received a complaint from an officer of the Madras Regiment about missing weapons and ammunition from the regiment’s armoury. The missing items allegedly included four AK-203 rifles, an INSAS rifle, seven pistols, a night-vision binocular, and more than 1,000 rounds of live ammunition. Police had registered a burglary case, with multiple agencies joining the probe to locate the missing arms and ammunition.
