Rail collision in Odisha claims 50 lives.

A train accident in Odisha, India involving three trains has left at least 50 people dead and 350 people injured. The accident happened in Balasore district when the Bengaluru-Howrah Express train derailed and collided with the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express train, causing it to capsize. A goods train was also involved. The accident occurred at around 7 pm and rescue efforts have been hampered by darkness. Emergency services personnel and locals are working together to rescue those trapped under the derailed coaches.

132 injured people were taken to health centres in Soro, Gopalpur and Khantapada while 47 others were taken to Balasore Medical College and Hospital. Relief trains have been dispatched to the scene and the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and ambulances are helping with rescue efforts.

Helplines have been set up by the Odisha government and railways for those affected by the accident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences and spoken with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw about the situation.
