Telangana BJP President N Ramchander Rao spoke to reporters on Thursday, highlighting the recent changes in GST as a major achievement by the Modi government.
He praised the GST Council for making taxes simpler, calling it a “gift” for people during the festive season. He noted the elimination of the 12% and 28% tax rates as a historic step. Items previously taxed at 12% are now at 5%, with some reduced to zero, offering relief to farmers, students, women, youth, and middle-class families.
Rao pointed out that the reforms, led by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, show the government’s focus on inclusive growth. “Lowering GST on essentials like milk, paneer, and personal care items will directly benefit the poor and middle class,” he said.
He also praised the broader goals of the Modi administration, mentioning “One Nation-One Tax,” “One Nation-One Law,” and “One Nation-One Election.” Rao noted the increase in GST payers from 65.5 lakh initially to over 1.5 crore, which has increased government revenue and supported infrastructure projects.
Rao criticized the Congress party for recent comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially those involving his mother, calling them “disrespectful.” He also denied rumors about K Kavitha joining the BJP, stating, “Our party has no room for corrupt leaders.”
In appreciation of the GST reforms, the Telangana BJP unit will hold ‘Palabhishekam’ ceremonies in every mandal to honor Prime Minister Modi. Various party groups, including the Mahila Morcha, Kisan Morcha, ST/SC Morcha, and Yuva Morcha, will organize these events starting tomorrow.
Rao accused the Congress-led state government of creating a fake shortage of urea. He blamed them for failing to stop black market activities, while praising the Modi government for ensuring a sufficient supply nationwide.
MP Konda Vishweshwar Rao and BJP spokesperson N V Subhash also attended the press conference. The party emphasized its focus on economic empowerment and self-reliance, highlighting the success of “Made in India” and “Make in India” despite global trade challenges.
With the festive season nearing, the BJP presents the GST reforms as a significant step to reduce financial stress for millions of Indian families.
