The demand for new ration cards in Telangana is growing rapidly. Thousands of people have submitted applications and are eagerly waiting to receive their cards. However, the government has not yet started verifying these applications, leaving many applicants confused and anxious.
A top official from the Civil Supplies Department recently announced that the verification process will officially begin in the first week of June. The delay, he explained, is due to the huge volume of applications and a shortage of staff needed to carry out the checks.
Currently, there are around 6,39,451 active ration cards spread across nine city zones. In recent weeks, the department received nearly 4 lakh new applications. Many of these are duplicate submissions, which is adding to the backlog.
Due to limited staff, officials have asked the Revenue Department and other related offices to provide additional manpower. These reinforcements are expected to arrive by the end of May. Once in place, teams will begin verifying applications and conducting door-to-door inspections to identify eligible families.
After the verification process is complete, the department will start issuing new ration cards to those who qualify.
In the meantime, officials are also working on updating existing ration cards. This includes adding new family members and removing names of deceased or no longer eligible persons.
Authorities confirmed there is no deadline to apply for a ration card. The application process is ongoing and will continue without interruption.
