Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma admitted that his team failed to create crucial partnerships during the ODI series decider against Australia at the M A Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday. India lost the match by 21 runs, failing to chase down 270 runs. While India had a 65-run opening partnership, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul added 69 runs for the fourth wicket before the duo followed by Suryakumar Yadav fell in quick succession. Australia’s leg-spinner Adam Zampa and left-arm spinner Ashton Agar picked four and two wickets respectively to help the visitors fight back in the middle overs. Sharma said in the post-match presentation ceremony that partnerships are crucial, and they failed to create them during the match. He also acknowledged that shot selection was an issue for his batters. The loss meant India lost the series 2-1, losing a bilateral ODI series for the first time since 2019.
