Rs 2,000 currency notes remain unpopular in Hyderabad.

People in the twin cities of Hyderabad faced difficulty on Saturday as petrol pumps refused to accept Rs 2,000 currency notes. Some petrol pumps even displayed signs stating that consumers must purchase at least Rs 1,000 worth of fuel if they wanted to use the Rs 2,000 note. When asked, attendants explained that they didn’t see many of these notes in circulation anymore.

Traders were also hesitant to accept the Rs 2,000 note, with some cashiers refusing to take it for purchases. Some customers were bringing the note for small purchases which resulted in a shortage of smaller denominations. However, the Begum Bazar Kirana Merchant’s Association member Arun Kumar said that he is ready to accept the note, but hasn’t seen many of them recently.

Narasimha, a workshop owner, also had seven Rs 2,000 notes that he wanted to deposit in cash machines. He believes that the problem is not significant for common people like him but may affect big money hoarders and politicians.
