Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav’s poor performance in the second ODI against Australia on Sunday has caused Sanju Samson to trend on Twitter. With Shreyas Iyer out with a back injury and Rishabh Pant recovering from a car crash, Suryakumar has been given the opportunity at No.4 in the Indian playing XIs. However, he was dismissed in an identical manner in the first two ODIs against Australia, both LBWs off in-swinging deliveries from Mitchell Starc. This was Suryakumar’s 16th ODI without a fifty, with an unbeaten 34 against New Zealand being his highest score. Twitter users are now calling for Sanju Samson to be given a chance instead, with some suggesting that senior players may be insecure about Samson’s popularity among fans. However, India skipper Rohit Sharma has assured that Suryakumar would be given a longer run in ODIs. Samson will next be seen leading Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023.
