Hyderabad: The dispute between Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Telangana (TS) over the sharing of RTC assets in and around Hyderabad is still unresolved. However, the newly appointed Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has taken the initiative to address this issue. He has communicated with his counterpart, Pinepe Viswaroop, and discussed various unresolved issues that have arisen since the state’s bifurcation.

During their communication, Ponnam and Viswaroop discussed various transport-related issues. They also briefly discussed the long-pending issue of sharing RTC assets, which has remained unresolved since the state’s bifurcation. Ponnam expressed hope that this issue will be resolved amicably and assured that there is no conflict surrounding it. He believes that this neglected issue will be resolved soon.

According to TSRTC sources, both TSRTC and APSRTC have been holding discussions for years to resolve this issue. However, no progress has been made so far. In addition to the dozen high-valued properties in Hyderabad that need to be shared between the two states, other assets also need to be distributed. An official stated that this issue, like many others, has been stuck due to the involvement of the Central government. Both states are willing to resolve the matter and have been holding regular meetings. Now, it is up to the Central government to take action.

The funds released by the Centre are under the name of APSRTC, and both states share these funds based on the number of buses they operate. To ensure smooth administration, both states have divided the corporations and are finding a balance. Meetings have been held in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with officials attending from both sides. For example, buses traveling from AP to TS generate good revenue, while those traveling from TS to AP face challenges. AP addresses this imbalance by collecting toll charges.
