On Monday night, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan summoned an emergency meeting of the federal cabinet amid the growing political and judicial crisis in the country. According to sources cited by ARY News, the meeting will be chaired by Shehbaz and important decisions are likely to be made. The meeting was called after the Pakistan Supreme Court reserved its verdict in a case concerning the delay in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) polls. The government had requested the formation of a full court to hear the case, which was ruled out by the three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial. Two judges recused themselves from hearing the case, leading to high drama during the hearings. Last month, the Senate passed a bill that aimed to limit the powers of the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) to take suo motu notice. Under the bill, the decision for suo motu notice will be taken by three senior judges of the Supreme Court.
